Last two days, I encountered a Facebook image about 4 Ways to build your wealth. The editor mentioned each of the path required hard work. Indeed, which path are you on?

Post Covid-19 Lock down, many people had chosen to monetize their product/service, Online or Offline.

Before dipping your feet into the water, what criteria to be considered so that you have easier life for years to come?

Put the first two in the above image, i.e. saver+investor and climb the corporate ladder aside, I have heard a few friends sharing their dilemma in the other two path:-

> Forced selling at rock bottom price to compete in the competitive online platform with extremely thin margin, or worse, without profit.

> Spent money buying stock, end up have to keep the left over stock at home.

If lucky, and the products/service is high demand, you need to stay up late at night, packing to post the next day. Worse is, you might running out of stock, and need to bid farewell to the customers who couldn’t wait.

If unlucky, you have to give away the left over stock to friends and relatives, for free, or idling at home.

4. Products with high repeat order, and cater all categories of consumers. For instance, good quality effective consumable products that will attract repeat client. Best is something that you yourself used and love it.

Active Income

“Active income is the income when you have performed a service or sold a product. That includes your salary, commission and even income generated from the business.

Basically it means if you are working, you earn money. If you open a shop to sell something, regardless products or service, there’s income generated from the sale. If the shop is closing at night, there’s no sale and no income generated.

During the old days, our parents and grandparents work hard to earn the money for a living.

After outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, when many countries locked down, countless self-employed, business owners, investor, workers lost source of income. Many people started deep thought on Passive Income.

Online business became hot cake, and everyone wanted to start their new venture as Plan B.

What to sell, where to sell, how to sell became the Question Marks ???

Many friends of mine running online business since long ago or recently, bought plenty of stock, keeping at home, packing, post. If lucky, they will be busy buying, reply message, packing late night to post, sometimes even running out of stock; if unlucky, the left over stock will be kept at home forever.

Hence, before investing time, money and effort, shouldn’t you examine the best platform, products/service so that your life will get easier for years to go?

Generate leads and increasing sales in any business and marketing, without obvious selling sounds weird and impossible to many people

In fact, no one enjoy being pressured and pushed into making a purchase.

If that’s the case, so how do you generate leads, and persuade your customer into buying your products or services, or even join your company if you are doing network marketing?

In this article, I’ll show you how to generate quality leads opt in by willing prospects and increase sales purchased by willing customers. It can be used in any online or offline business, regardless of what industry you are in.

1. Generate Leads and Increase Sales With Compelling Sales Message

Sales message is a persuasive message that persuade your customers to close sales or generate leads by convincing your prospects to opt into the business you are doing.

a) Selling a product or service for your offline or online business

Let’s make some comparison. Of the following, which sales message would you prefer?

“New Year Sales!!! Promotion!!! Grab the high quality cheap handmade soap now!”

“Learn how to improve your skin to become soft like a baby with natural handmade soap at affordable price.”

If you are like most people, you will choose ad number 2 because it attracts you instead of pushing you into making purchase.

In a short sentence, the second ads includes:

Feature of the product – natural handmade soap
Benefit – improve skin
End result – soft like a baby
Indicative Price – affordable

Contrary to the second ad, the first ad push you into buying their ‘high quality’ product NOW. By the way, beware of using punctuation mark (!) as well, as most people feel pushy with many exclamation marks.

High quality is very subjective, you as a seller definitely feel your products or services are high quality, but this might not be the case from the perspective of the buyer.

In actual fact, quality is a must-have criteria in any product or service, thus it’s no longer a selling point.

Can you see the difference of both ads in terms of pulling customers to take action themselves willingly, by educating them the benefit of your product versus pushing the customers into making purchase now as instructed because cheap?

b) Generate leads for your network marketing business

How about this, if you are doing network marketing, and looking for business partner to join your company?

“Join our company today! Guarantee make 10k per month!”

“Start your home business with step by step guide even you have no experience today.”

You see…. “Join our company” is a redundant word, because they know you want them to join you the moment you advertise or talk to them.

And hello… every company has an opportunity to make you become a millionaire, so what make you guarantee them to earn big bucks? Without any effort?

Would the second ad sounds more practical and attractive? Why, because you assure them that they can start a home business even without experience, because there’s step by step guide.

2. Giving Before Receiving

Giving before receiving? Probably you might start worrying, hey, crazy? We are doing business, won’t we lose if giving so much things to the customers, and yet they are not buying from us?!

Consumers now are smart, they can get quality information online with regardless to anything under the sky.

Doing business in this technology era now is all about giving high perceived value to the prospects before they are committing to come out with the money.

I give you two examples that I’d came across in effectively generating leads and increasing sales by giving value to the customers.

a) Ikea

Ikea, is a Swedish multinational furniture retailer company that design and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, appliances and home accessories.

Every year, they will have a new catalog showcasing their inventories and teach the public how to mix and match the furniture.

Every few months, I will receive their Free magazine with plenty of ideas ranging from :

Space planning
Children play time ideas
Kitchen and garden ideas
Color Match
Type of eco friendly materials
Recipe
And many more

It’s all free, so what do they earn? Well, if you like the ideas provided and want to have the same effective space planning, same efficient kitchen appliances, same color, same garden, same delicious food, you can buy everything from their store.

You got the idea ?

Still not convince? Here’s another example of local entrepreneur that impressed me.

2. Sewing World

Last month, I brought my daughter to a sewing workshop to redeem a voucher distributed in her school by the shop, where they will teach you, for free, on how to sew a tuition bag with the materials you bought.

Then I got to know that there are other short courses for adult too. Out of passion, I signed up a few days course learn to sew a few ‘upcycle’ bag with my unfit jeans.

Along the days while I am learning, the teacher there will teach my boring daughter few simple sewing techniques, without extra charge.

After mastered the simple techniques, she became interested in sewing, so how? I subscribed her as junior sewing club member to learn more.

You see… without receiving the value to appreciate handmade, we will not sign up anything.

What Should You Do Now?

If you have a business with great product and service, deliver the value to your customers before persuading them into making the purchase.

If you want to generate leads for your network marketing business or subscription platform, teach them, educate them that you are a valuable partner before making them commit to the subscription.

Keep in touch with your ex colleagues, clients and team in your industry.

They know your skills, experience and what you are good at, so they can recommend you in the event any of them or their contact need to hire freelancer.

They know people who know people. Yes, they might not know what exactly you are doing or not use your service, but they have their own personal connection whom is likely use your service one fine day.

And you never know your competitor will want to collaborate with you down the road.

Professional networking.

One of the largest professional network to get your gig is Linkedin. If you do not have Linkedin account yet, check it out and create a free one. Many clients and human resource people are looking at Linkedin for talent now.

Online Social Network.

Facebook, twitter, instagram, wechat and etc, in fact you network everyday. Don’t forget to post your work in between your delicious food, pet or your adorable children’s posts.

Offline Network.

If there’s any association, social event within your industry or even just a coffee chat, make your time to connect with the people that you know or not know.

A small tip from me, keep your contacts and send the new year or festive greeting to them regularly and that will remind them who you are, and tell them what you are doing now if they ask.

A personalize message is more effective and warming than forwarding the photo or standard greeting.

2. Update Your CV

Job search portal is still very useful even though you are not applying full-time job. Remember to update your resume frequently and keep your resume open for search.

You never know when you will receive call from headhunter or potential client for your service.

Maximize your Linkedin profile, and include endorsement and recommendation from your client base.

There are local freelancing websites with available job bank now for you to post your profile.

Many Malaysians had even acquired jobs from global outsourcing marketplace and gained good reputation and positive feedback.

3. Make Proposal To Your Potential Client

Try to target those small business or start-up company. Lots of chance they don’t have enough resources and need to outsource the work.

Approach them personally if you know any of your personal connection might be benefited from your service.

If you are shy, just casually mentioned why they should employ people like you. Generally they will save fixed monthly pay, office utilities and work space.

It make wonder for me as I got one of my job by educating my client during a coffee chat why he should employ a Quantity Surveyor like me to help him do effective project cost monitoring.

It’s possible to get more freelance work even if economy is not good, as the business will tend to streamline their monthly overhead by employing freelancer.

If you want, you can attend full-time job interview at selected company that you preferred. Leave your profile with them, and get them to contact you in case they need you in future.

Writing a job proposal is an art. However, there are many great sample online that you can use.

Focus on solution to your potential client’s problem and sell your strength.

The main point of making proposal are

Identify their problem
Give them solution
Sell your strength as solution.

In the end, it’s all about relationship building and networking.

If you simply want to increase your take-home pay, try to consider branching out a little freelance work.

If you do it right with sufficient client base, you can even quit your day job, and make it as your career and home business.

“WHILE juggling the roles of chef, transport provider, tutor, nurse and caregiver may seem daunting enough for the average Jane, many modern stay-at-home mums are going the extra mile by working from home to supplement their household incomes and provide the best for their families.

Mother of two, May Tan, gave up her job as a commercial manager twice to spend more quality time with her two daughters.

“I’d been a stay-at-home-mum for a year after my first child was born, but I rejoined the workforce. Eventually, after the birth of my second daughter, I quit my full-time job for good.

“It really wasn’t a difficult decision to make because I knew I wanted and needed the flexible hours — so that I have more time for my daughters and ageing parents. My father is a diabetic patient and I need to take him for regular check-ups as well.”

Tan said she was fortunate to have a very supportive husband, and also close friends who made her decision an easy one.

“Sometimes I miss full-time working life, especially the social interaction with colleagues.

“However, if I had to do it all over again, I would make the same decision.”

Tan now does freelance work for a foreign technology company to spearhead their technology in Asia.

“I still get paid and I’m not completely out of the workforce.

“When I need to attend project meetings, I get help from childcare sources.

“I can arrange my own schedule to be available for school activities, pay full attention during their sick days, spend more time guiding them with their homework and also arrange outings for them during less crowded days,” she said.

The grass may definitely seem much greener on the other side, but having been on both sides of the fence, Tan said being a full-time mum was much more challenging due to the lack of personal time.

“Support from spouse and family members is very important before making this decision. Calculate your budget before making the jump, and, if possible, build a plan to earn side incomes before quitting.”

In this current economic climate, she said, it was necessary to have cutbacks to survive on a single income.

“As a family, we have learnt to adopt a simpler lifestyle. Realistically, to live a comfortable family life on a single income is a challenge, especially here in Kuala Lumpur.”

By the end of the day, you might not have the energy to finish all the house chores. The dishes that used during breakfast might still left in the sink till dinner time. The floor is not shining enough to be your mirror.

#2. You gain plenty of free time at home

Yes. Working from home save the hours stuck in the traffic, save the nonsense chit chatting with colleagues in the pantry, meeting and etc.

But don’t forget you will still start work late (after sent your child to school) and end earlier as soon as they get back home from school.

Otherwise, if you have a baby, he/she is your boss who determines how much time you can work.

Preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner also will take up most of your time. So being organised with the time/schedule is the key to success.

#3. Working from home is easy

Ha.. How nice because no boss or superior is telling you what and how to do at what time. Nobody will restrict your online activity.

So you have to make sure not to spend the first few hours of the day checking other people’s life on facebook and grab the most value for money offer in online shopping.

You have got to be discipline, focus and self-motivated to get the work done.

#4. You are at home so you are not working

Be sure to tell your friends and family that you are actually working at home. Many people have the impression that if you are staying at home, you will have free time to help fetching their kids or ask a favor from you during the day.

Educate them and learn not to volunteer or helping friends in need while you are working.

#5. You no need childcare or helper

Perhaps the pull factor for you to work from home is you get to spend more time with your child and save on childcare cost.

But depends on what you are doing to make a living from home, there might be occasion that you will need childcare or helper in order to focus and get your work done.

Imagine will you bring your child to office and expect to get the work done as needed?

So before you let go your full time babysitter, it’s good to have a back up childcare plan or even just get your friends or family to help you few hours a day or a week in exchange of quiet time for your work.

Notwithstanding all the myths about working from home, most work from home mums will still telling you that it is doable. Practice makes perfect.

Become a work from home mum is nearly every mum’s dream. That is your goal or your wish?

GOAL VS WISH

Do you know the difference between a GOAL and a WISH? A GOAL is something realistic and achievable. A goal has a time frame and measurable.

WISHes don’t require any energy or discipline; goals do. Wishes don’t need any commitment; goals do.

You may wish to be work from home mum, but in order to achieve that, you need to set a goal and time frame. Without any effort to turn your wish into a goal that you work to achieve, your wish to be a work from home mum will remain wish only.

“Making good money as a work from home mum may take a lot of sacrifices, time commitment and effort from you especially at early stage.

By defining your goals and purpose early on, it will help you through the ups and downs and tough time until you enjoy with passion for whatever you are doing.”

Before you hop in and decide any work from home opportunity, spend some time thinking about your goal. For instance:-

You may want to work from home after your baby is born or once your child start school or by any other date.
You want to work from home temporary and return to your professional career after your little one grows up.
You just want to add some extra money to your family’s budget.
You want to start something new that can work from home and make it as your career.

No matter what it is, be sure it is reasonable and make that as your long term GOAL.
